This plaque commemorates the Key Biscayne Yacht Club’s role as host of the 15th Annual Midwinter Championship Regatta for the U.S. 2.4mR/N³ Class, held in 2004. It was presented by the class association in appreciation for the Club’s exceptional hospitality and race management.

The 2.4mR is a single-handed keelboat that offers Olympic-caliber competition in a compact 13’ design. With its deep keel and precise steering, it simulates the experience of larger yachts and is renowned for being one of the most technically demanding classes in sailing. The 2.4mR is raced by both able-bodied and disabled sailors and was adopted as a Paralympic class from 2000 through 2020.

The Midwinter Championship is a premier event on the 2.4mR North American circuit, drawing sailors from across the U.S., Canada, and beyond. The 2004 edition, hosted at KBYC, was celebrated for its flawless race committee work, welcoming atmosphere, and club-wide support.

This award is a testament to the Club’s commitment to excellence in regatta hosting, the contributions of race committee volunteers, and the warmth and generosity extended to the national sailing community.
