A "friendly" challenge between Biscayne Bay Yacht Clubs.

The "Battle of the Bay INTERCLUB CHALLENGE" sailing competition, is a significant event within a larger series of races organized by the Biscayne Bay Yacht Racing Association (BBYRA). This series involves five major sailing clubs in the Miami, Florida area, specifically around Biscayne Bay:

* Biscayne Bay Yacht Club (BBYC)

* Coral Reef Yacht Club (CRYC)

* Key Biscayne Yacht Club (KBYC)

* Miami Yacht Club (MYC)

* Coconut Grove Sailing Club (CGSC)

These clubs each host their own annual regattas, and the results from these individual events are then used to score the overall BBYRA series. The "Interclub Challenge" name refers to the competitive spirit and collaboration among these clubs to create a comprehensive racing calendar for sailors in the region.

Here are some key details about the competition:

Event Structure:

* The BBYRA annual series typically runs from mid-September to early June.

* The series is composed of about 10 regattas in total, with races taking place monthly.

* A variety of boat classes compete, including PHRF (Performance Handicap Racing Fleet), One Designs (such as J/24s, VxOne, and Etchells), and Finn.

Participating Clubs and their events:

* Coral Reef Yacht Club (CRYC): Hosts an annual regatta, often in November, which is part of the BBYRA series. This regatta includes One Design and Cruising classes. CRYC is also known for its youth sailing programs and for hosting major international events like the Bacardi Cup and BCIR.

* Key Biscayne Yacht Club (KBYC): This club also plays a key role in the BBYRA series and hosts its own events, such as the "Round the Island Race" and an annual regatta. KBYC is also a venue for prestigious events like the USA Finn National Championship.

* Biscayne Bay Yacht Club (BBYC): BBYC manages and oversees several regattas, including the "Sunburn Regatta," the "Lime Cup Annual Offshore Race," and an International Etchells Series.

Communication:

* Sailors in the BBYRA series use specific VHF radio frequencies for communication during races, with each club having its own assigned frequency.

The official organizing body is the Biscayne Bay Yacht Racing Association (BBYRA). The competition is a testament to the strong sailing community in South Florida and the collaborative effort of the major yacht clubs in the area to provide a full and competitive racing season.

Location: Beneath the Commodore's gallelry at the main entrance of the club.
